Will eating low carb foods help me lose wieght?
Most overweight people consume a high percentage of carbohydrate in their food such as white flour and sugar. To keep one fit and healthy one can avoid these but try to eat more of the healthier complex carbohydrates found in vegetables and grains. Dieting deprives us of vital nutrients hence it is a better option to lose weight by eating low carbohydrates but compensating that by eating fats and proteins. Earlier people would reduce their calories and fat levels but not only did such combinations not work out but in fact worsened the conditions for diabetic people. Eating low carbs can benefit not only obese and diabetic people but also people with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and hypoglycemia.
Research has proved that dietary fat does not necessarily get converted into body fat but carbohydrate does as they are easily converted into fat by the action of insulin. Elevated insulin levels in the blood increases fat as it helps to deposit fat in the cells and the pancreas have to work overtime which has a disastrous effect on your body leading to premature aging. When you reduce your intake of carbohydrates your insulin level decreases and the level of glucagon increases. Glucagon is a hormone that burns body fat and removes cholesterol from deposits in the arteries. If you continuously and severely reduce the intake of carbohydrates your body goes into a state of ketosis that is burning fat at the same time producing ketone bodies in the bloodstream. The result of this is that your blood levels come to normal, your insulin level drops and because your body is burning fat you also loose weight giving you double benefit.
The advantages of eating low carbohydrates is sustained weight loss, stabilizing blood sugar(beneficial to diabetics), lower insulin levels, better lipid profile(beneficial for heart patients with high cholesterol), lowered blood pressure and better health in general.
