Back from the long weekend - I hope you took some time to be with family and loved ones?
Tradtitionally during this week between the Christmas Holiday and New Years I spend a fair amount of time thinking about my accomplishments and achievements during 2005 and look forward to setting new goals for the new year 2006.
Here are some Quick Goal Setting Tips:
1. Your Goals need to be meaningful - you have to get very close to the “why” of the goal. In other words, why is this goal important to me, otherwise it will lose its power with the slightest bit of adversity.
2. Your goals must be expressed in the “positive” and present tense. Most people set a goal for weight loss and think something like this: “I want to lose 20 pounds.” it is much better to state it in the present and in positive language, like: “I weigh a healthy, trim and fit 125 pounds
3. Your goals must be in writing. Not having your goals in writing drastically reduces your chances of success. Review and read your goals out loud everyday until you have reached your goal.
4. Goal setting should take place in every area of your life, including Health, Relationships, Spiritual, Career and Financial.
5. Goal setting is powerful - it will add excitement, purpose and texture to your life.
6. Be flexible and allow yourself to adjust the goal mid-stream. If for some reason you fall short of your goal - revaluate the goal itself, what it means to you and perhaps how much you are willing to sacrifice to reach that goal. Typically, a missed goal relates to one of these and a simple and honest evaluation will get you back on track.
Do you want to simplify and make goal setting more effective? I thought I would share with you an incredible tool that I use to help my goal setting efforts:
PS - Here is a book that everyone should use to jump start and maintain their goal setting efforts. I read this book By Brian Tracy once each year (during this week) and at least once a quarter during the course of the year.
It is called “Eat That Frog” - pick it up at Amazon.com today…
